Together, Seniors and Youth Learn about Healthy Food Options

Bath, ME, June 15, 2016- Bath Housing Development Corporation is pleased to announce the receipt of a $5,000 grant from the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation for a collaborative effort between Access Health, Bath Area YMCA school age youth programs, and Bath Housing.

Seniors and youth are partnering this summer to grow food together in the gardens at Bath Housing’s properties. Forty raised garden beds were built and prepared by Bath Housing’s Maintenance Team and Morse High School Freshmen. The Maine Organic Gardeners and Farmers Association (MOFGA) led a planting day on June 6, 2016.  The gardens will be tended this summer and fall by Bath Housing residents and the Bath Area Family YMCA school age youth programs.

Access Health will lead SNAP-Ed (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education) cooking classes at all of Bath Housing’s community kitchen spaces.  Recipes will feature food harvested from the gardens.

Bath Housing works to enhance housing stability for seniors, those with disabilities, and families in the greater Bath area. For more information, contact Bath Housing, 80 Congress Avenue, Bath ME  04530 by calling 207-443-3116 or via the website at www.bathhousing.org.
